The Word of Promise Next Generation New Testament Trailer is Finally Available!

Saturday, November 8, 2008

Yay, the Pathway website is finally back up and running! It looks the same for the most part but there are a few new perks:
1. Save 10% off all CD and Videos
2. Save 15% off all Books and Bibles
3. Spend $50 or more and get FREE Media Mail Shipping (4 to 10 Business Days)

If you choose the "pick up in store" option you will not get the 10% or 15% discounts but you will be able to use any coupons you may have from Frequent Buyer Points or Sales Catalogs (Orders shipped from the website will not qualify for coupon use...instead we are doing a flat 10-15% off these items.)

We are able to provide these discounts because it is for the most part hands off for us. We don't have to pay anyone to update the website or staff to provide customer service. It also allows us to stay competitive with CBD and Amazon. Some CBD and Amazon items have larger than 10-15% discounts, but other items have no discount at all...so overall we stay very competitive.

Come check it out for yourself...

What They Won't Think Of!

To celebrate the 30th anniversary of the NIV Zondervan has launched Bible Across America, a cross-country RV tour. Bible Across America features an RV, piloted by a four-person team, that is traveling across the continental United States, making stops at churches, universities, retail stores and special events where people are invited to contribute a verse to complete a handwritten Bible – America's NIV.
I think this is a cool idea. I can't wait to see the finished copy!

There is Freedom From Pornography

As you all know this is a hard issue to discuss in the Christian realm, it is a topic that has become a big problem in our Christian communities. It is about time we step up and take a stand! During the conference I was at in September, Ted Cunningham got up and introduced this line of resources to all the bookstore owners. During his presentation of some of the statistics one of the bookstore owners shared that his brother is the manager at a hotel and the pay-per-view adult video charges are the highest during pastor conferences and Christian Men's retreats. This just highlights how much of an issue this has become. This resource extends to women and even talks about the issue of lust and how detrimental that can be to relationships. Since these items will be hard to sell the individuals Ted recommended the 3 M's (Men for their friends, Moms and Ministry). Most men know of a friend who struggles with this issue (50% of Christian men are addicted to porn). Moms need to talk to their kids about this (12 to 17 year olds are the largest consumers of Internet pornography). Ministries can use these resources to start small groups within their churches and most of the time can speak from experience (7 of 10 lay leaders in the church admitted to visiting adult Web sites at least once a week).

To get more information about these resources visit www.freedombeginshere.org. If you are sold and want to pick up your resources stop
by Pathway today and find the package that is best for you.

Sorry about the coloring...he wasn't really supposed to be blue, but I guess maybe that just emphasizes how many books he is carrying!

I am so excited about this new product from Zondervan. I will probably be my own best customer! Basically you will now be able to purchase electronic books. There are two different versions:
1) eBook (Actually has the text of the book that you can download onto your computer or eBook reader and read. The Sony Reader we will be carrying at Pathway will hold as many as 2,000 eBooks. Can you imagine having 2,000 books on a 3 x 5 device!)
2) Audio Book (Typical audio book but you download it and since there are no CDs the price is significally less. These audio books will cost about the price of a soft cover book that is about a 50% decrease in price.)

At its introduction coming this fall, Zondervan has partnered with Baker Publishing to release a wide selection of fiction and non-fiction titles. Zondervan is currently in negotiation with the other big publishers across the industry and are planning to release a plethera of other titles in January of 2009.

Word of Promise Next Generation New Testament

I am praying this will be the biggest gift item this Christmas Season. Thomas Nelson has come out the youth edition of the Word of Promise. For this youth edition they decided to go with the International Children's Bible (ICB) translation to make it a little more friendly to youth. Nelson came up with a great cast of characters including; Corbin Bleu, Jordin Sparks, Alyson Stoner, Emily Osment, Cody Linley, Jenna Lucado and many more. This Audio Bible will be available in both MP3 and CD. The release date is planned for November 4th, but don't hesitate to call the store to reserve your copy!

The MP3 version will run about $35 and the CD version will run about $50, it you think this is high just think about how much you would spend for a video game...and would you rather they be spending time playing their Wii or listening to the Bible!

Facts about Teens:
  • 15-24 year olds spend only 7 - 10 minutes per day on voluntary reading
  • 58% of middle and high school students use media while reading
  • 31% of kids aged 6 - 10 now use digital music players, and 54 percent of those use an iPod
  • 60% of teens have an iPod or mp3 player (up from 40% last year)

Fireproof

Make sure you get a chance to see this movie. It is amazing! I have seen it 3 times now at different conferences I have been to this fall. This is Sherwood's best movie yet. To get more info about the movie visit: www.fireproofthemovie.com

Bibles, Bibles and more Bibles

NLT Study Bible
The newest Study Bible from Tyndale House Publishers since the Life Application Study Bible
, and I think this one will have just as big of an impact (if not better). At a conference I went to the beginning of September I got a brief training on this Bible and since have been doing some research and study of my own. I give this Bible 5-stars! It is a large Bible I do have to confess, but it is well worth the arm ache you get from carrying it around. It is one of the most comprehensive Study Bibles I have seen...with Charts, Maps and Timelines...a Word Study System...Strong's Concordance Numbers tied right in...and lots of colorful Illustrations and other visual aids. For more details visit the NLT Study Bible website: http://www.nltstudybible.com/

ESV Study Bible
“The ESV Study Bible is the most important resource that has been given to the emerging generation of Bible students and teachers. The ESV Study Bible is the best. Period.” --Mark Driscoll

I have not seen this Bible in person (other than for about 2 minutes at the conference I was at in September), but Crossway sent us a 15 minute training DVD that I sat down and watched. Unfortunately the DVD really didn't go into any details about the features of this Study Bible as much as it did about the authors and the endorsements. To do your own research you can visit their website that has the Gospel of John as a PDF: http://www.esvstudybible.org
